Hugo Chavez Makes Power Moves, His American Cheerleaders Are Silent

Imagine if the imperial George W. Bush made a move to dismantle the 2 term limit for the American presidency, made it easier for the federal government to confiscate private land and closed down an opposition broadcast channel - let's say Pacifica Network in America. No doubt you would see the American Left up in arms, decrying evil Bush as a dictator. They would take the streets to oppose this man's actions.

For some strange reason when it comes to Hugo Chavez various American leftist have a rather endearing view of this man. From Sean Penn to Danny Glover they can't seem to contain themselves over the consolidation of power that this man has done in the name of "the little people".

It is clear that the left looks at "the intentions" more than "the tactics" that are used to get toward a glorious end.

A close friend of mine told me how much he is enamored by both Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro. Both are standing up against the American imperialist. He told me that he thought of himself as a "communist" in that only communism is able provide for the little people. As an American I had to remind him that he is an American. I had to remind him that he lives in a half million dollar house and that he and his wife has a combined income that places them in the top 5% of Americans......"what other than mere words makes you a communism?"

Chávez proposes additional powers

Soaring oil revenues have allowed Mr Chávez to finance generous social spending that has won him strong support among the poor. Mr Chávez was voted in for a second term in December last year by some 60 per cent of the electorate

ExxonMobil gets attacked in America for raking in record profits that benefit their shareholders, pension funds and employees. Hugo Chavez gets cheered for using its proceeds from the same run up in oil to care for his citizens. Go figure.
